It's not often that I deem a dance record to be the record of the week, but this one redefines infectious.
This is the best dance record in many months, and it is fresh and new, not a retread of 70s disco grooves. The backing track is Heatwave by the exceptional French rock act Phoenix (their If I Ever Feel Better
is a monster hit that never happened.)
DB Boulevard is producer/DJ collective consisting of Roxy, Azzetto and Broggio. The excellent vocal here is provided by Moony. She's from Liverpool, but the rest of the group are Italians.
The track starts with an electronic piano introduction, not a million miles away from Sophie B Hawkins' As I Lay Me Down
. But it's not long until the obligatory drum rhythm clicks in, followed by Moony's easy, sweet vocals. There are funky arpeggios around half way through, and before you really begin to get into the track, it's over.
This is never demanding listening, but still rattles along at a fair old lick. Perhaps best suited to driving down a country road with the top down.
Put this in the same category as Dario G's Sunchyme
and Underworld's Born Slippy
. If it doesn't become as firm a fan favourite as those tracks, then I'd be surprised.
