Final day in the German league saw Stuttgart win the title; their win ensures that Schalke's victory can only confirm them in second place. Werder Bremen, champions-elect at the winter break, can only finish third. Bayern will probably go into the UEFA Cup as favourites; Bayer Leverkusen and Nurenburg will join them. After struggling to have as many points as a triangle for much of the autumn, Hamburg recovered well, and will represent Germany in the Intertoto Cup. Mainz and Alemannia Aachen were relegated on the final day; Borussia Monchengladbach fell down some weeks ago. They'll be replaced by Karlsruher, Hansa Rostock, and Duisburg - the last pip Freiburg on goal difference.
