Another week, another German topper, and cover your ears. DJ Ötzi's Ein stern has taken the best-seller crown, as we rather feared it would. Nic's version of the same song climbs to position 9. Last week's chart toppers, Hoehner, also have a song in at 20. Though Yannick Noah retains the top spot in France, Faf Larange comes in at number 2 with Ta meuf.

Three new entries into the top ten in Sweden, Encore's L'amour toujours and Magnus Carlsson's Live forever enter at 3 and 4, with Anyway you want me in at 8 for the Rednex. Local act Fixkes comes in at number two in Flanders, with a song called Kvraagetaan. Obviously. Sunrise Avenue's climb continues, cracking the top 10 in Estonia, where they're joined by the Council Estate Slappers' recent Tiffany cover. Mika holds on to the top slot in Ireland, from Take That's new song; highest new entry goes to Cascada at 10. This week's Finnish number one is the No way back ep from Norther.

Week 8

In Germany, last week's 1-2-3-4-5 are this week's 5-4-3-2-1. Hoehner heads the list with Wenn nicht jetzt wann dann?, and there's also a climb for Summer wine. Basshunter's Boten Anna cracks the top ten, along with Traeumst du, the new hit from dance band Oomph! After last week's stasis, it's all change in France this week, with four new entries in the top seven. Leading the way is Yannick Noah, performing Aux arbres citoyens (Amongst tree citizens), the new best-seller. Medhy Custos lands at 3 with Elles demandent (Ladies demand), Shy'M is in at 4 with Victoire, and the three-year-old market is tapped once more with Bebe Lilly's Les cow-boys at position 7.

The moment you believe is the new Mel C number, hitting the top 20 in Luxembourg. Former Spice Girls manager Simon Fuller said that Mel C was the only stumbling block to a reunion, claiming She thinks her solo career is bigger than the band, which is just not the case. When did you last have a German number one hit, Mr. Fuller?

New leader in the Netherlands, Lauwe pis as performed by Theo Maassen. And a new topper in Sweden, where Danny performs Tokyo; the Fray and Justine Numberwang come straight into the top ten. In Ireland, Beyonce, Kelis, and the Fray move into the top ten, and Hannah Montana comes straight into the top 20. Kids, eh. This week's Finnish number one is One more magic potion from Ensiferum. Ten places below is I touch myself, performed by the High Street Honeys. These Finns are barking...

Just two records come straight into the top 40; What would Steve do, the first big hit single for Mumm-ra. The Essex boys have been on the verge of a big hit for a couple of releases. Highest new entry goes to the Magic Numbers, who confirm that This is a song. And they are a band.

Two re-entries into the 40, the first from the Fratellis on a three-place climb. Three records climbing into the top end. The Killers' new song, Read my mind, leaps up 33 places to 29, Stacey Ferguson's Glamorous is up 29 to 27, and Junior Jack's re-recording of his 2005 hit Stupidisco (apparently now called Dare me) from 64 to 20. After its physical release, Bouncey Knowles's Listen moves up from 51 to 16.

Significant climbs within the 40 include Sophie Ellis Bextor (24-8) and Kelis (15-3), both on full release.

The ROPRA effect seems to be lasting - Amy Whingebag's old single is back up 4 places, the Seizure Sisters are up 3, and there are only gentle falls for Take That and Snore Patrol - even so, the latter's 9-place dip is the fastest in the 40. The decline of Patience allows Take That's Shine advances into the top ten, and the Fray's How to save a life into the top five. And, after five weeks, Mika's Grace Kelly proved insufficient to repel the challenge of Boys Aloud, whose Ruby gives them their first chart-topper.

On the albums list, Mika's challenge again falters, allowing Amy Whingebag's Back to Black to return to the top slot, with Snore Patrol at 3. The Fray's album How to Save a Life re-enters at 4, with the Killers, Lily Allen, Nelly Furtado, and the Fratellis all re-entering the top ten; Justin Numberwang, Akron, and Whingebag's 2004 debut all post substantive climbs.

Week 7

Three new entries into the top five in Germany, with Herbert Groenemeyer's Lied 1-stueck von himmel new at the top. DJ Ötzi returns with Ein stern at number 3, and Hoehner debuts at 5 with Wenn nicht jetzt wann dann?, the theme to the recent handball world cup. Actually, why hasn't Ötzi gone in for Eurovision yet? He couldn't do worse than anything else Germany sends... Four of the top seven are German-language hits, and we reckon five of the top 9 are native hitsters. Basshunter's climb continues, moving up to number 12.

A remarkable French chart, with ten of the top 20 holding position, including Fais la poule, which makes The chicken song song like the height of songwriting. Two new entries into the Finnish top 5, from Danny and Magnus Backlund. Anyone would think that records that don't even get into the national Eurovision final wouldn't be hits. Nelly Furtado hits the top in Flanders, and holds the top in Estonia and Latvia, and number 2 in Lithuania. This week's Finnish number one is Summer wine by Ville Valo and Natalia Avelon.

The annual ROPRA awards bash this week. We have no idea if Jamie Theakston's prediction - Huey Lewis and the News as best band, Cyndi Lauper as best solo artist, and Who Let the Dogs Out as best single - came true, for we really can't be bothered watching, never mind re-capping. Thankfully, No Rock 'n' Roll Fun saved us the bother of doing both, and we thank them for it.

Five new entries into this week's top 40, though just one record is in its first week on release. It really does feel like the charts have regressed to the 1980s, when new entries in the top 10 were rare.

Mika holds off Boys Aloud for the top spot, with Akron displacing Just Jack form the top three. Beneath that, there's a huge amount of fall-out from Wednesday's ROPRA awards. As we've mentioned, we found something far more interesting to watch, so have had to rely on some second-hand reports. Take That was victorious in the Best Way For The Grate British Public To Annoy Robbie Williams; their old single Patience rebounds to 10, and follow-up Shine continues its climb at 11. Second two-in-a-row of the year so far, Quirks. Snore Patrol won the Most Overplayed Pile Of Soppy Gobshite, and Chasing cars is back up at number 12. Amy Whinehouse, fresh from her victory in the hotly-contested Best British Screwup category, moves back up twenty-seven places to 22.

Week 6

To the surprise of approximately no-one, Tokio Hotel's new single has come straight into the German charts at number 1. Bill, the porcupine on top of his head, and the rest of the band sold more copies of Uebers ende der welt than the rest of the top ten put together. Ville Valo and Natalia Avelon's Summer wine comes in at position 3. In at 7 is a cultural exchange programme - France gives Tokio Hotel a hit, Germany gives an airing to Le papa pinguin, an almost direct cover of Luxembourg's entry to Eyrovision 1980.

Sebasto comes in at number 3 in France with Fais la poule, which we assume is within hailing distance of The chicken song. A new list-leader in Sweden, Värsta schlagern by Markoolio and Linda Bengtzing; Sebastian and Nelly Furtardo move into the top five. Amy Whinehouse is clogging up the top spot in Norway, local act Bill Divokej has the most-played record in Czechia, and Nelly Furtado returns to the top in NL, beating off XYP's Body to body. There aren't enough Samantha Mumba covers. This week's Finnish number one is Perfect skin by 69 Eyes.

So, no change at the top, with Mika holding off the Kaisers and Just Jack for the top spot. The Fray climb four to 6, and Gwen Stiffeny is up to 10, both still a couple of weeks before physical release; Kelis, Take That, Sophie Ellis Bextor, and Nelly Furtado are also up into the top twenty. Jessica Simpering is back amongst us at 20. Please stick to being an atrocious film actress, that way we never get to see you. Tupac is spinning in his grave at the rubbish released in his name. Eric E has some nonsense at 25, it may have been number one in the Netherlands, but we'd trade this for any Marco Borsato release.

An all-new top three in the albums chart sees Mika hold the top spot, Life in Cartoon Motion beats Bloc Party's A Weekend in the City and Fall Out Boy's Infinity on High. Amy Whinehouse and Snow Patrol hold as the others fall. Lesley Garrett comes in at 11 with her collection of love songs; Phil Collins' collection moves 52-19, and Diana Ross's chart-toppers re-enter at 22. There's a good climb for the Feeling, 24-15.

Week 5

Five new entries into the French top 20, the highest from Thierry Amiel, performing Coeur sacre (Heart sacred); Sandi Thom, Pink, Gwen Stiffani and Stacey Ferguson have familiar numbers, but none can topple Kamini from the top. Nelly Furtado retains the top spot in Germany (and adds the lead in Latvia), but it's all change beneath. Nevio (who?) enters at 2 with Amore per sempre, with Sunrise Avenue climbing from outside the top ten to 3. Scooter has a new entry with a song recounting their trip to Milton Keynes, Behind the cow, and Basshunter's Boten Anna also enters. Biggest surprise is one of the fastest slumps we've ever seen - Us 5 were new at 2 last week, but their fan-base sales see them move this week to position 29. (TWENTY-NINE)

Grace Kelly deposes Leona from the top in Ireland. Erik Segerstedt moves to the top in Sweden, I can't say I'm sorry beats all-comers. Sebastian comes in at 8. A new number one in the Netherlands - Het hubis anubis is by Nienke, and we're going to have to look them up. William Hut takes the top spot in Norway, Take it easy has been climbing the listings for eleven weeks. This week's Finnish number one is Eric Prydz's Proper education. And a word of caution from Estonia, where Gerli Padar, the sister of EE01 winner Tanel, debuts in the top 20.

No change at the top, Mika's physical sales push him further ahead at the top. Fall Out Boy climb to 2, Bloc Party have their highest ever place, number 4, and the Fray climb into the top 10 on downloads alone. Kasabian has the highest new entry at 22 with Me plus one, the rather good third single from their album. Gwen Stiffeny's The sweetest escape enters at 23. It's inoffensive, but tedious. After spending two weeks just beneath the top 40, Stiffeny's mate Dykey Chavereign clambers up to position 26. Hey, no straight woman would ever wear her hair in cornrows.

Week 4

The march of Tokio Hotel continues, as Durch den monsun, a 2005 chart-topper in their native Germany, comes straight into the top 10 in France. The lads have a new single in Germany, which will probably be huge next week. This week, it's bore band Us 5 in at 2, with casting show losers Soccx entering at 10.

All change in Sweden, where the United DJs' Don't you know comes straight in to the top spot. Linda Sunblad's Lose you comes in at 2, and the Robbie Williams - Pet Shop Boys collaberation She's Madonna creeps in at number 20. Good news for Take That's fan, as Patience begins to take off in Canada - leading the charge is Toronto's finest, CHUM-FM. This week's Finnish number one is Koneeseen kadonnut from local band Apulanta.

Mika retains the top spot, still ahead of Just Jack. Some dance gubbins climbs to 3 on physical release, ahead of Jojo. Fallout Bore lands at 6, one ahead of the Klaxons on physical release. Bloc Party channel the one hit of Bush on The prayer, and Little Man Tate bring in another entertaining romp. Plunge of the week for Jamie T, whose Calm down dearest has gone 40-9-22. Climb is for the Fray, whose physical release has come forward from March to to-morrow.

Akon, Clitring Aguilera, and Bouncey move into the French top 10. Puff Daddy is new in Germany at number 5, just ahead of Cascada's old song, Everytime we touch. U2 enters in the top 20, while both Lovex and the combination of Reamonn and Lucie Silvas are new in the top 30. Local talent in the Irish top 10 from Damien Leith, whose Light of my life is tenth. This week's oh-so-cutting-edge hit from Ireland is at number 36, Eye of the tiger. You know, the Survivor song. From MCMLXXXVII.

A new number one in Estonia, and it's Mika's first week at the top anywhere on the planet, courtesy of his debut single Relax take it easy. A new number one in Finland, and congratulations to Iron Maiden. Curios from the Finnish charts include Audio Thieves' cover of Scritti Politti's Pray like Aretha Franklin, and the welcome return of Kirsty Hawkshaw, previously of Opus III, now with Mr. Sam. In Lithuania, we note the combination of Reamonn and Lucie Silvas on The only ones.

Mika takes the top spot, and his is the second single to be a weekly best-seller on downloads alone, following Gnarls Barkley last April. Just Jack rises to second place, with a song loosely inspired by Michelle McManus. View has a top-three hit, outpacing Jojo as the top new physical release of the week. Ordinary Bores (22-7), Jamie Tee (40-9), and Akron (35-16) also put in some decent climbs.
