Skunk Anansie, then. Two parts feminist rage to one part heavy metal should have been right up my boulevard, but they didn't hit the right notes with any regularity. Too much bile, too little tune.
The group formed in 1994, and tickled the underbelly of the top 40 the following year. Weak
gave the group their big breakthrough at the start of 1996, but it wasn't until the following year's Hedonism
that Skin and her lads hit the A-list. By golly, was that a proper tune they're playing? The follow-up, Brazen
was almost a carbon copy, but by now it was clear that the group only had the one song, that they played at slightly different tempos and in different keys. Calling their 1999 comeback Charlie Big Potato
was just taking the piss, and the group finally called it a day in 2001.
Lead singer Skin has tried to have a solo career, with remarkably little success. In the meantime, there's a fansite from about 1999.
